Theseus: The Myth of Theseus and the Minotaur Goes Video Game

The production will launch this summer on PlayStation VR.

Do you know the story Theseus and the Minotaur? The classic Greek myth serves as the basis for Theseus, a loose adaptation where the legend is rethought as a terrifying and tense third-person action adventure. The production has been announced by Forge Reply (Joe Dever's Lone Wolf and In Space We Brawl), and will arrive this summer at PlayStation VR. Although its exclusive character for PS4 is not specified.

"Our approach to this tale is darker and more twisted. It starts out as familiar, but what happens as you step into it labyrinth… You will have to find out for yourself ", explains Samuele Perseo, producer of the video game, in a post on the PlayStation blog." The answer lies in the relationship between our main character and the minotaur. Theseus is not an ordinary hero; in our game it is the prey, not the hunter. He is 'only a human' while his enemy, in addition to measuring 10 meters, has a supernatural strength ... and is invulnerable, "he continues to add on why to choose the third person as a point of view.

Theseus cannot fight face to face with the minotaur: each encounter between them will present a new challenge. He will have to resort to stealth, or perhaps an ancient mechanism is the key to escape death. The monster is blind, but its hearing and smell are highly developed. Furthermore, the minotaur can send his minions to stalk Theseus; in that case, he will have no choice but to fight, "he continues to explain, adding how the production also bets on caution to explore, with great immersion, the desolate and hostile place where it is set.

In final lines, Samuele Perseo also acknowledges a source of inspiration in Fumito Ueda's work: ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and even The Last Guardian.
