PS VR: Sony has sold more than a million virtual reality headsets

Sony outsold Oculus and HTC combined in the first quarter of the year.

According to the analysis firm SuperData, it is estimated that Sony would have sold 375,000 units of PlayStation VR in the first quarter of the year. If in mid-February sales of the device were estimated to be at 915,000 units sold, Sony's virtual reality headset would have already exceeded one million units between February 20 and May 10.

SuperData, according to data reported by the GamesIndustry portal, ensures that sales of Oculus Rift Y HTC Vive would have remained at 64,000 and 95,000 units, respectively, which means that they would be well below the sales of the virtual reality device of Sony at the beginning of 2017. The analyst firm would place the HTC Vive at 553,000 units sold and the Oculus Rift 346,000 at the end of 2017.

There is no doubt that the technical specifications of computer headsets are well above Sony's, but the ease of use and the price of the Japanese device invite its users to get hold of them. In mobile territory, away from PC and console headsets, Samsung Gear VR has managed to sell 782,000 units in the first quarter of the year.
