Five years after the launch of Grand Theft Auto V
The Rockstar video game is close to 100 million copies sold.
September 17, 2013 was the date chosen by Rockstar games to launch the most profitable entertainment product in history: GTA V. This is how an open-world action adventure began its journey that, to this day, is one breath away from reaching 100 million copies sold between its different versions available.
The original release of Grand Theft Auto V was on PS3 and Xbox 360, immediately achieving overwhelming international critical success. One year later, on November 18, 2014, the adventure starring Michael, Franklin and Trevor It reached the public of PS4 and Xbox One. On April 14, 2015 it would do the same on PC. Shortly after its launch on old-generation systems, the North American company also opened the GTA Online servers, one of the great precursors of the mass phenomenon that has been the last installment to date of the franchise.
At 3DJuegos, a little over a year ago, we reviewed the limitless success of GTA V; but since then the data provided there have been totally out of date. Videogames is a usual UK top-seller while in Spain it managed to be the fourth most acquired title in 2017 only surpassed by the latest installments of FIFA and Call of Duty. To take another more representative example, a recent report ranked Rockstar's proposal as the most profitable entertainment product in history, surpassing any previously published movie, music album or book in revenue, with earnings of $ 6 billion. .
Now the eyes of the company chaired by Sam Houser turn to Red Dead Redemption 2, with a release scheduled for October 26 on PS4 and Xbox One. Will it get close to the numbers of GTA V? Take-Two, his publishing company, is cautious and prefers to focus on product quality.
